In summary, RAB can supply and fix the following joints:

  • RAB BJ (Buried Joint)- A quick and economically installed Buried Joint System meeting the Department of Transport Highways and Traffic Advice Note BA 26/94 & BD 33/94. Designed to fully support the subsequent continuous laid surfacing.
  • RAB HBJ (Highway Bridge Joint) - Asphaltic plug type compound, which will accommodate dynamic, tensile and compressive sheer stresses. Gap movement of +/- 20 mm in motorway bridge decks. RAB Bridge Joint works in conjunction with all types of bridge membrane systems. Having a high skid resistance capability and a quiet ride they meet with BD 33/94 & BA 26/94. Registration Number 011 [1995].
  • RAB FG (Fine Grade) - has passed the same rigorous test as the R.A.B Asphaltic Plug. It is of a finer grade which allows the maintenance of existing Asphaltic Plug Installations, without the need to completely remove the full depth of the joint. Note, depths of 35mm are quite acceptable to this material.
  • RAB TS (Transition Joint) - When installed, this prevents deterioration of butt joints between flexible/rigid road construction. I.e. tarmac type surfaces to concrete or steel decking.

RAB BJ (BURIED JOINT)

A quick and economically installed Buried Joint System meeting the Department of Transport Highways and Traffic Advice Note BA 26/94 & BD 33/94. Designed to fully support the subsequent continuous laid surfacing.

RAB (BJ) advantages include:-

  • Installed RAB (BJ) allows full traffic conditions prior to W.P.M. applications without need of further protection.
  • No metal plates to cause rocking failure, see item 5 (3.2) Road Note.
  • Accepts most types of W.P.M.:- Spray, Pour & Roll, Torch On.
  • Deck water cannot enter joint detail being a fully watertight system throughout its entire length.
  • Total movement of 40 mm can be accommodated in joint system if desired.
  • Up to 30% cheaper than Deck Flashing Types. See typical installation drawing below.

RAB FG Joint (Fine Grade)

R.A.B. (FG) has passed the same rigorous test as the R.A.B Asphaltic Plug. It is of a finer grade which allows the maintenance of existing Asphaltic Plug Installations, without the need to completely remove the full depth of the joint. Please note that depths of 35mm are quite acceptable to this material.
