Along
the A55 Conwy Coast road many of the inspection chambers, which
have been sited in the wheel track area, required constant re-bedding
in order to prevent the dislodged, loosened cover and frames
from becoming a safety hazard. These repairs required carrying
out every 18 to 24 months and Conwy County Borough Highways
Department obviously considered this too often! Therefore, they
called in RAB Associates to advise, design and specify a cost-effective,
long-term solution.. Click

Associated
Asphalt‘s panic call to our offices in October 2001 sent
our mobile highway repair team rushing down to the A45 in Wellingborough,
Northants. Wide transverse cracks (20-30mm) required treatment
prior to the completion of the new thin layer surfacing that
was scheduled for later that week. Click

The
busy A454 Black Country Spine Road and several of its over
bridges were suffering from cracked, loose and leaking epoxy
resin type transition joints that were installed either side
of a proprietary, pre–formed elastomeric bridge joint.
These loosened, defunct transition strips were contributing
extensively to the localized failure of the road surfacing,
which in turn was deforming the underlying bridge deck waterproof
membrane.
R.A.B.
Associates Ltd. chose to replace all these known problems
with one product, "PERMATRACK.” Click

Structures
on the Conventry City ring road were rapidly deteriorating
and a quick repair to the expansion joints was sought by the
engineering staff of the Babtie Consultants Group. For many
years these leaking, overstressed asphaltic plug joints have
been allowing saline water to attack the concrete crossheads,
reinforcement and beam ends.
"PERMATRACK
HEAVY DUTY ROAD JOINT" was chosen as the most economical
way in achieving a long lived solution. Click

Nottingham's
City Express Transit Tram will commence public service in
November 2003. Several of the new tram lines have to be placed
in close proximity to existing buildings. In order to prevent
the heavy road trains vibrating these structures the tram
track foundations will be cast onto a floating slab structure
in order that the imposed dynamic loadings are absorbed before
they can cause damage to the surrounding areas.
RAB
Associates were consulted at the design stage, with a view
to overcoming the problem of these loadings being transferred
to the tarmac surfacing and bringing about rapid deteriation.
Their solution was to install ‘PERMATRACK H’ heavy
duty road joint... Click
