The busy A454 Black Country Spine Road and several of its over bridges were suffering from cracked, loose and leaking epoxy resin type transition joints that were installed either side of a proprietary, pre–formed elastomeric bridge joint.
These loosened defunct transition strips were contributing extensively to the localized failure of the road surfacing, which in turn was deforming the underlying bridge deck waterproof membrane.

R.A.B. Associates Ltd. chose to replace all these known problems with one product, "PERMATRACK."

The Permatrack Heavy Duty jointing medium is designed to accept heavy traffic conditions without the loss of adhesion to either steel, concrete or tarmac surrounds. It is capable of holding anti–skid mediums such as pre–coated chippings and bauxite etc. without the risk of these coatings being stripped off. Permatrack, having excellent rut resistance and fast laying techniques, allows for quick "open to traffic" without artificial curing aids.

Economical System: All works were completed during a period of traffic management which was actually in place for other items of maintenance to be carried out.
Defective resin based transition joints..

Once RAB removed the loose road surfacing the extent of the requirements became apparent. Using a conventional road saw and hydraulic breakers RAB excavated to around 40mm depth.
Loose road surfacing removed.
After laying the Permatrack Heavy Duty system to form the transition strips the road was open to traffic within 1 hour.
